Context: Why is this course so important?

Don't get left behind! Making digital videos is brilliant. Oh, and it's fun. Really great fun. And right now you need to have a digital video presence in our demanding hi-tech 21st century digital world. If you don't know how...

Develop your imagination. Look for new ways to exercise your critical thinking. Solve problems. Learn to use some cool technology. Take creative decisions. Shape things. Work in a team. Look for extraordinary events. Make some new friends with shared interests. Widen your horizons. Make something really memorable! Work to inspire and create fresh ideas!

You'll be working with professional film makers, teachers and instructors the entire week!

The screenplay will be exciting and appropriate to the Silver Screen age range. Written by professional screenplay and playwright Patrick Marlowe.

So, here's how it works:

Day 1: 09.00 - 16.00

The day starts off with 'chemistry' sessions; getting to know your strengths and the way you work... Then you will learn film language, specialist terminology, creativity and expression in film production. Learn how to act for screen. Assign production roles. Reading the bespoke screenplay (specially written for the week, using local locations). Assigning performance roles. Using digital pre-production apps (such as SyncOnSet) to simplify organisation and instruction/training, for some, on the use of the drone which will be used for landscape, establishing and tracking shots. Some participants will be planning and recording a 'The Making of..." throughout the week.

Day 2: 09.00 - 16.00

First day of shooting on location, in non-chronological order. It's intense and sometimes pressurised but you will be making a great short film and you will be proud of the finished piece!

Day 3: 09.00 - 16.00

Shooting on location/in the studio. Again, in non-chronological order. You will be easing into your dual production and 'talent' (acting) roles just like a real professional .

Day 4: 09.00 - 16.00

You'll be acting like an Academy Award winner, plus you'll be coordinating and ensuring that the creatives are doing their behind-the-scenes jobs too. You'll also be doing pick-up and cutaway shots to ensure that all filming is fully complete, to the highest professional standards.

Day 5: 09.00 - 16.00

Depending on your school/college/venue, we will spend the day teaching you about post-production and how to edit, construct and bring together the entire footage that has been shot through the week.

And what next...?

* A premiere, that's what! Sometime in September/October, a premiere will be held at the host venue, with nibbles and drinks. 'The Making of...', documentary will be shown, plus student edited versions of the recorded film, before the main feature is played to the gathered audience. Exciting!

* Certificates and prizes will also be given on this night. During the production week, students will be invited to vote for categories where participants really show their enthusiasm, skill and helpfulness

* The certificates will comprehensively list all of the individual, team skills, technical achievements and personal goals that each participant achieved

* A USB wristband with all of the films screened at the premiere, plus group and individual photographs as a moment of the week.

What do you get out of this course?

In the space of just five days you will have learnt film language skills, planning and development requirements, worked through both creative and talent roles, marked up a screenplay, used a digital pre-production app., read and understood the demands of the screenplay, been instructed in using digital/technical equipment safely and creatively, been trained in 'acting for screen', worked on team skills and individual initiative requirements. You will also be given the opportunity to upload footage and use digital software to piece together the final film.

ALL of the above skills demand perseverance, tenacity, patience, creativity, team work, problem solving, time management and many other skills besides!

In a matter of a few days you will be able to pick up and absorb a fantastic range of skills that you can use in the future, for school/college work, in other curriculum areas, to develop your own imagination outside of school, to make videos and upload professional quality work to YouTube, Vimeo, and so on. This course really WILL make you into a thoughtful, creative and digital all-rounder.
